What is Biochar – and how is it made?

Biochar (also known as activated charcoal) is made from natural plant materials such as wood, coconut shells, or bamboo. Through pyrolysis – heating at 600–900°C in the absence of oxygen – a highly porous carbon structure is created. It is then activated: Steam or CO₂ opens millions of tiny pores, creating an enormous internal surface area.

Application & Dosage

⚠️ Important note: Do not administer biochar continuously – it binds nutrients & medications in addition to pollutants. Use as a short course for acute symptoms (3–5 days) or occasionally for detoxification. When administering medication simultaneously, maintain a minimum of 2 hours apart. Consult a veterinarian in case of doubt.

Feeding recommendation

Daily dosage (mix with food): Small dogs / cats (up to 10 kg): ¼ – ½ teaspoon Medium dogs (10–25 kg): ½ – 1 teaspoon Large dogs (from 25 kg): 1–2 teaspoons Farm animals: consult a vet based on body weight ⚠️ Do not use continuously! Use as a course for acute ailments (3–5 days). Maintain a minimum 2-hour interval when administering medication. Always provide fresh water. Dosage of feed charcoal: Cats: 1 – 2 g biochar per day Dogs under 20 kg: 2 g biochar per day Dogs up to 40 kg: 4 g biochar per day Dogs over 40 kg: 8 g biochar per day. Biochar should be mixed into the food daily, or it can be given as pressed pellets. If dogs or cats are fed wet food or raw food (BARF), the charcoal powder can be mixed directly into the food. The biochar powder is dust-free. The addition of salmon oil also provides your pet with unsaturated fatty acids. Do not feed during medication administration: Because the active ingredients of medicines are partially bound and neutralized by biochar, feed charcoal must not be given during the administration of medications.
