What is meat meal – and why is it the best choice in dry food?
Our meat meal is made exclusively from fresh duck and chicken muscle meat as well as high-quality offal such as heart, lung, and liver – all human-grade quality from free-range farming. These meat components are gently dried at low temperatures and then finely ground. The water is completely removed – what remains is a highly concentrated meat meal with a residual moisture content of only approx. 8–10%.
Important to understand: In dry food, only the dry matter counts – i.e., what actually remains in the kibble after processing. And this is precisely where the crucial difference lies:
-
56% total meat content = 56% real, dried meat from muscle meat and offal – directly in the finished kibble, based on dry matter
-
40% fresh meat = consists of 70–80% water. After drying, only approx. 8–10% actual meat content remains in the kibble – the rest simply evaporates
We use the word "protein" at Kallisbest exclusively in the legally required analytical constituents declaration – nowhere else. What's on our packaging is what's in the kibble. Guaranteed.

How to recognize good dog food?
-
"Animal by-products" – slaughter waste such as feathers, hooves, and beaks. Not real meat.
-
"Poultry," "duck" without "meat" or "meat meal" – means skin, bones, feathers, and heads, but no muscle meat.
-
"Poultry protein," "duck protein," etc. – chemically enhanced slaughter residues. No real meat nutritional value.
-
"Cellulose" – filler from wood chips or paper.
-
Closed declaration – no exact percentage figures.
-
The "fresh meat" trick – 40% fresh meat contains 70–80% water. After drying, only an actual meat content of approx. 8–10% remains.
At Kallisbest, you see every single ingredient with exact percentage figures – based on dry matter. No tricks. No sugarcoating. Just real meat from muscles and offal – for your little darling.
