Frequently asked questions from our customers

Question 1: How are your croquettes made?

Our croquettes are created in a carefully controlled process – transparent, natural, and without unnecessary additives. Here’s how the production works step by step:

1. Only one meat source – from the start

Everything processed comes exclusively from the animal species stated on the packaging. The muscle meat and offal are delivered to the factory as frozen blocks – from this moment, the entire manufacturing process begins. No substitutes, no chemical additives, no waste products.

2. Mincing & gentle drying of the meat

The frozen meat blocks are first minced and then gently oven-dried. This process preserves natural nutrients and concentrates the meat content, without needing artificial aids.

3. Grinding & mixing the raw materials

After drying, the meat is ground and mixed with all other raw materials into a homogeneous paste. Our additives consist exclusively of genuine ingredients: real potatoes, real rice, real vegetables – all food-grade, no waste products, no chemical substitutes.

4. Shaping & pressing the croquettes

From this paste, the croquettes are shaped and pressed at the lowest possible temperature. The entire process is heated to a legally prescribed minimum temperature – ensuring all germs, bacteria, and pathogens are reliably killed. This is legally mandated and strictly adhered to.

5. Gentle cooling on the conveyor belt

After production, the croquettes are slowly and gently cooled down on a conveyor belt before packaging – to preserve their structure and quality.

6. Natural taste – without tricks

A small proportion of fresh ingredients is specifically incorporated as a natural flavor carrier. The result: the food smells exactly like what's actually in it – like the real meat source. Completely free from artificial flavors, colorings, or flavor enhancers. It couldn't be more natural.

The result: A croquette you can feed with a clear conscience – openly declared, honest in its ingredients, and gently produced. Whether for dogs or cats.

Question 2: Is "cold-pressed" really better?

No – "cold-pressed" is a marketing term with no real added value. Here's the truth:

  • Cold-pressed dry food undergoes exactly the same manufacturing process as regular dry food.
  • Even cold-pressed food must be subjected to legally prescribed temperatures – otherwise, it would not be marketable.
  • Due to the resulting structure, cold-pressed food is even exposed to multiple and higher temperatures than claimed.
  • A truly "cold" pressing is technically not possible – without sufficient heat, the croquette would not achieve the necessary firmness.
  • Identifying feature: Cold-pressed croquettes often look like small, very hard and firm chocolate pieces – this clearly shows: the more heat, the firmer the end result. This directly contradicts the term "cold."

At Kallisbest, we work without such semantic tricks. What's on the packaging is what's inside – open, honest, traceable.

Question 3: What's behind the "fresh meat trick" of many brand-name and no-name manufacturers?

Many brand-name and no-name manufacturers advertise with "70% or even 80% fresh meat!" on the packaging. Sounds fantastic – but what's really behind it?

What is the fresh meat trick?

Fresh meat consists of approximately 70–75% water. When dry food is produced, this water is removed through the drying process. This means specifically:

  • For 80% fresh meat: 80% × 25% dry matter = only approx. 17–20% actual meat content in the finished croquette
  • For 70% fresh meat: also only approx. 17–18% actual meat content after processing

In comparison: Kallisbest uses meat meal – for 1 kg of meat meal, approx. 4–5 kg of fresh raw meat are processed. The actual meat content is therefore significantly higher and more concentrated – and this is openly stated on the packaging.

Meat meal – the misunderstanding

Meat meal initially sounds less appetizing than "fresh meat" – but in dry food, it is the more honest and nutrient-rich choice:

  • ✅ Water already removed – what you see is actual meat content
  • ✅ Concentrated meat, amino acids & minerals
  • ✅ No hidden water content in the declaration
  • ✅ Honest statement of actual meat content

Important: With wet food, it's different – fresh meat is indeed the better choice there, as no drying process takes place!

How do you recognize the trick?

  • ❌ "70% or 80% fresh meat" in dry food – sounds good, but is little
  • ❌ Fresh meat is at the top of the ingredient list – after drying, it falls far back
  • ❌ No precise % details after processing
  • ✅ Kallisbest: Meat meal with exact % details – what's on it is in it!

At Kallisbest, it's not about profit at the expense of the animal – but about the animal itself. That's why we deliberately refrain from such marketing tricks and rely on open declaration, genuine ingredients, and honest quality.
